How Settings Work

Settings are stored as key-value pairs in the database:

  • Key — Setting identifier (e.g., "store_name", "default_tax_rate")
  • Value — Setting value (string)
  • Type — Data type (string, number, boolean, json)
  • Group — Organizational group (store, sales, inventory, etc.)

Activity Logging

All setting changes are logged via Spatie Activitylog, providing an audit trail of who changed what configuration and when.

Best Practices

  1. Configure before going live — Set all settings before entering real data
  2. Review regularly — Update settings as your business evolves
  3. Tax rates — Verify tax rates with your accountant
  4. Currency — Set the correct currency once; changing later affects historical data display
  5. Backup settings — Document your configuration for disaster recovery
