How Settings Work
Settings are stored as key-value pairs in the database:
- Key — Setting identifier (e.g., "store_name", "default_tax_rate")
- Value — Setting value (string)
- Type — Data type (string, number, boolean, json)
- Group — Organizational group (store, sales, inventory, etc.)
Activity Logging
All setting changes are logged via Spatie Activitylog, providing an audit trail of who changed what configuration and when.
Best Practices
- Configure before going live — Set all settings before entering real data
- Review regularly — Update settings as your business evolves
- Tax rates — Verify tax rates with your accountant
- Currency — Set the correct currency once; changing later affects historical data display
- Backup settings — Document your configuration for disaster recovery
